On Fighting & Winning

"Winning is a habit, so is losing". "When u fail to plan, u r planning to fail". So much were said about the key to success and the quotes about winning goes on endlessly. So, what are the principle ingredients of success? Does each quote proven over every condition and situation. I believe in attitude and sharing vision.

Strategy 1 - Copycat
Inspired people only, tends to emulate what works for the champion. During my teenage years, I almost succumb to peer pressure I could put it. People around think if they wear the boot, the jersey and the brand of the great footballer, they can be as successful as the idol. How easily fooled are our youngsters nowadays. Most people loves to copy the outlook of their idol but hardly emulates the hard work and learn the attitudes. After sometimes, they quit copying and felt cheated. Very low percentage improvise.

Strategy 2 - Self belief
Put up a plan, sticks to it, wait for it to works. I've seen many people used this method for their financial solution. 99% of the case, they quit before it works, if it could ever works or it is too late. However, this is normally the strategy for a short period race.

What these 2 basic strategies tell in common is, there is no shortcut to success!! Although you might have a plan that has worked somewhere it does not directly translated into success if you don't (1) review and improvise, (2) adapt to changes.

Let's check out our Case Study, Arsenal FC in comparison to Man Utd season 2006/07. I'm a fan of Arsene Wenger and keen to watch how he respond to the situation that is happening when Arsenal challenge on all 4 fronts effectively ended in March.

Issue 1 - raw talents vs established players
Issue 2 - foreign vs british players

Does Arsenal squad is small in size? I don't think so. I believe except left back, the club has 2 or more quality players in each position. What they lack most is a leader. Before current season, Henry is almost a complete player. He shoots, assists, tackle, take penalties & free kicks, form up walls. However, being a leader is not only a technical issue. He behave badly when things didn't go his way. Now, the team has to learn, how to play football without Henry. Gilberto did not fare that bad but the team really missed the feeling of having Viera around. Looking at MU, the form are the results of resurging oldies like Giggs, Scholes & Ferdinand. What Arsenal needs is a player to inspire others to fight. As long as Henry the captain, other potential leaders in the squad can't make their voices heard.
